The Igembe Miti Uhai Initiative is WK Wazalendo Foundation’s community-driven environmental conservation program, designed to restore ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and build long-term climate resilience. Guided by the belief that trees are life, the initiative places communities especially women and youth at the center of environmental stewardship.
We focus on restoring degraded landscapes, protecting indigenous and endangered tree species, and promoting sustainable land-use practices that balance environmental protection with human well-being. By strengthening local knowledge, ownership, and participation, we ensure conservation efforts are effective, inclusive, and sustainable.

Tujali Miti Program
The Tujali Miti Program focuses on the restoration of endangered and indigenous tree species that have been lost due to deforestation and unsustainable land use. Through targeted reforestation efforts, community tree nurseries, and habitat restoration, the program helps revive ecosystems critical for biodiversity, water catchment, and climate regulation.
Miti Kijiji Program
The Miti Kijiji Program aims to plant at least 1,000 trees in every ward by actively engaging youth and school-going children as agents of change. Beyond tree planting, the program emphasizes environmental education, nurturing a generation that understands the value of conservation and the importance of restoring endangered tree species.
Through hands-on learning and mentorship, young people develop environmental responsibility, leadership skills, and a lifelong connection to nature ensuring conservation becomes a shared community value rather than a one-time activity.
Miti Nyumbani Program
The Miti Nyumbani Program empowers households especially rural farmers with knowledge and skills in regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and agroforestry practices. This program promotes farming systems that integrate trees with food production, enabling families to grow crops while improving soil health, conserving water, and protecting the environment.
